We Are
The goal of the "We Are" housing option is to provide first-year students who identify within or as allies of the LGBTQ+ community with gender-neutral housing.
LGBTQ+ individuals need and deserve to feel included in their housing. Labels can often be limiting; we want to provide people who identify as LGBTQ+ the opportunity to choose housing that doesn't require a label (gender binary or male or female). It is important that students be able to select gender-neutral housing and have access to communities that will meet the needs of how they identify in order to explore and celebrate LGBTQ+ identity and culture.
The We Are Community strives to fill this need. Created through a partnership of LGBTQ+ students and allies living on campus and the Office of Residential Life and operating under the vision and mission of Â鶹ÊÓƵ, we believe that all people in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ community should feel a sense of belonging, and there should be equitable access to all resources, including housing opportunities. We hope this community allows for a more inclusive, safe, and supportive environment for those identifying within and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
The We Are first-year student community is located on a dedicated floor in Norelius Hall, H Tower. If you have questions about this housing option, please email reslife@gustavus.edu.
Any incoming student can opt-in to this housing community by selecting it as their first choice of housing on the New Student Housing Form.
Returning students, please review options during Room Selection each Spring for open-gender housing in Uhler and Prairie View Halls as Sophomores/Juniors (doubles/triples), and any four-person apartment as Seniors.
