A home directory (often referred to as a Z-drive, since "Z" is the default network drive letter on Windows) is a networked personal storage space for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators. This space can be used to save papers, syllabi, pictures, e-mail, and other documents.

As of the 2005-2006 school year, students have 150 MB worth of storage space.

On-Campus access

Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000

If you're using Windows 95, 98 or ME, you must log onto your personal machine with your 鶹Ƶ username and password. If you're not prompted to log in to your computer, go to the Start menu and select "Log Off".

  1. Right click on My Computer and drag down to "Map Network Drive"
  2. Input the following information:
    1. Drive: Select Z
    2. Path: \\home.gac.edu\username
    3. Connect As: username
    4. Check "Reconnect at Logon"
  3. Click the OK button, you may be prompted for a password; if so, input your 鶹Ƶ e-mail password and click OK.

Your Z drive will now be mounted and should automatically mount each time you log in. You can access your Z drive by double clicking the My Computer icon.

Windows XP

  1. From the Start Menu select My Computer.
  2. From the Tools Menu select Map Network Drive
  3. Input the following information
    1. Drive: Z
    2. Folder: \\home.gac.edu\username
    3. Check "Reconnect at logon"
    4. Click on "Connect using a different user name"
    5. When prompted, input your 鶹Ƶ username and password
  4. Click the Finish button

Your Z drive will now be mounted and should automatically mount each time you log in. You can access your Z drive by selecting My Computer from the Start Menu and double clicking the correct volume.

Mac OS X

  1. From the Finder, select Connect to Server from the Go menu
  2. Type appleshare.gac.edu in the text box along the bottom. Click the Connect button.
  3. When prompted, enter your username and password
  4. Choose My Home Directory from the list that appears

Your home directory will now be mounted. For easy access in the future, drag your home directory icon to the right side of your dock.

Off-campus access

You are able to access your files stored in your MyData folder from anywhere, granted that you have an Internet connection.

To access your Home Directory perform the following tasks:

  1. Log on to the 鶹Ƶ Webmail service.
  2. On the left side of the Webmail interface, click on "My Account."
  3. Click on "File Manager."

You then will be able to browse your Home Directory and MyData files. You can download these files by clicking the little picture of a disk with a red arrow pointing down.
