Microsoft regularly releases updates to the Windows operating system and other Microsoft products via Windows Update. Applying these updates is an important step to protecting the security of your computer.

Manually Checking

Windows 8

  • Click the Windows key on your keyboard.
  • Search for Check for Updates (it will be the second one in the list.
  • Click the check now button.
  • Install any updates needed.
  • Repeat this process until no further updates are needed.

Windows 7

  • Click the Start button
  • Choose Control Panel
  • Under the System and Security, click Check for Updates

Automatic Updating

Windows 8

  • Click the Windows key on your keyboard.
  • Search for Control Panel
  • Under the System and Security, click Turn on or off automatic updating

Windows 7

  • Click the Start button
  • Choose Control Panel
  • Under the System and Security, click Turn on or off automatic updating
