A home directory (often referred to as a Z-drive, since "Z" is the default network drive letter on Windows) is a networked personal storage space for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators. This space can be used to save papers, syllabi, pictures, e-mail, and other documents. Home directories are also used to store user's personal homepages.

As of the 2012-2013 school year, students have 2 GB worth of storage space for files. Students have 500 MB worth of storage space for their e-mail. If more space is needed, students can request additional storage space.

On-Campus access

Windows 2000/XP

1. From the Start Menu select My Computer.
2. From the Tools Menu select Map Network Drive
3. Input the following information
   1. Drive: Z
   2. Folder: \\home.gac.edu\username
   3. Check "Reconnect at logon"
   4. Click on "Connect using a different user name"
   5. When prompted, input your �鶹��Ƶ username and password
4. Click the Finish button

Your Z drive will now be mounted and should automatically mount each time you log in. You can access your Z drive by selecting My Computer from the Start Menu and double clicking the correct volume.

Windows Vista

1. From the Start Menu, select My Computer.
2. From the toolbar, select Map Network Drive
3. Input the following information
   1. Drive: Z
   2. Folder: \\home.gac.edu\username
   3. Check "Reconnect at logon"
   4. Click on "Connect using a different user name"
   5. When prompted, input your �鶹��Ƶ username and password
4. Click the Finish button

Windows 7

1. From the Start Menu, select Computer
2. From the toolbar at the top of the window, select Map Network Drive
3. Input the following information:
   1. Drive: Z
   2. Folder: \\home.gac.edu\username
   3. Check "Reconnect at logon"
   4. Click on "Connect using a different user name"
   5. Click on Finish
   6. When prompted, input your �鶹��Ƶ username and password

Your Z drive will now be mounted and should automatically mount each time you log in. You can access your Z drive by selecting My Computer from the Start Menu and double clicking the correct volume.

If you have problems connecting, do the following:

Change the Settings

1. Press the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt keys) and then the "R" key. A run dialog box will appear.
2. Type "secpol.msc" (sans quotes) and press Enter
   1. Expand Local Policies
   2. Click on Security Options
   3. Double-click on "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level"
      1. Change setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Click OK

You may need to reboot for this setting to take affect.

Using the IP Address

1. Press the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt keys) and then the "R" key. A run dialog box will appear.
2. Type "cmd" and press enter.
3. Type "ping home.gac.edu". A set of four numbers will appear separated by periods.
4. Follow the above directions for mapping your home directory using vista, except, use ip address (set of numbers) in place of "home.gac.edu":
   1. Under Folder: \\ip address\username
5. Click the Finish Button.

Mac OS X

1. From the Finder, select Connect to Server from the Go menu
2. Type smb://home.gac.edu in the text box along the bottom. Click the Connect button.
3. When prompted, enter your username and password
4. Choose My Home Directory from the list that appears

Your home directory will now be mounted. For easy access in the future, drag your home directory icon to the right side of your dock.

Mac OS 10.7

1. From the Finder, select Connect to Server from the Go menu
2. Type smb://home.gac.edu in the text box along the bottom. Click the Connect button.
3. When prompted, enter your username and password
4. Choose My Home Directory from the list that appears

Off-campus access

You are able to access your files stored in your MyData folder from anywhere, granted that you have an Internet connection.

Via Webmail

To access your Home Directory via Webmail perform the following tasks:

1. Log on to the �鶹��Ƶ Webmail service.
2. On the left side of the Webmail interface, click on "File Manager"

You then will be able to browse your Home Directory and MyData files. You can download these files by clicking the little picture of a blue disk.

Via FTP

All FTP programs are different, but they all require the same information. To connect to the �鶹��Ƶ FTP server, you'll need to supply the following information to your favorite FTP program.

• Server: ftp.gac.edu
• Username: your �鶹��Ƶ username (the part of your e-mail address before @gustavus.edu)
• Password: your �鶹��Ƶ password
• Path: you can leave this blank; the FTP server will put you in your home directory. If you're trying to make a website and want to connect directly to your www-docs folder, supply "www-docs/" (sans quotes) for the path.
