Media Services provides video, audio, and lighting equipment for students and faculty to check out.

Overview

Media Services is responsible for managing access to equipment that is available for use by the campus community. To help manage this process, students have created an online system that we call the Media Services Virtual Office. To check out equipment, you will need a valid reservation for equipment that you are authorized to check out. Access to some equipment is limited based on course enrollment, or your status at the college (employees of the college have access to some equipment that students do not, and some students have access to equipment that employees and other students do not) so please check what equipment is available to you based on your permissions in the Virtual Office system.

To check out the equipment you have reserved, go to the Media Services office during the Checkout Hours (see below) and a Media Services employee will assist you with equipment checkout. Also, make sure to have your 3 Crowns Card with you as well. Assuming the equipment you want is available (you can check this by logging into Virtual Office, view your reservations, and check to see if there is a green check mark next to the equipment you have reserved- that means it is in our office and ready to be checked out), then the Media Services employee will go through the equipment making sure everything is accounted for. The whole process takes several minutes, depending on the amount of equipment you need to check out, and how many others are checking out equipment at the same time. When you return the equipment, the employee will go over the equipment again, and ask for feedback on issues related to functionality.

Reservations

If you would like to ensure equipment will be available for you to check out on a specific date, you must create a reservation by visiting the Media Services Virtual Office at this location:

You may make a reservation at anytime by accessing the Virtual Office System directly. If you need assistance, feel free to stop in our office in Olin and one of the employees will be glad to walk you through the process.

  • In order to check something out, you need a reservation for that item. These can be made in advance, or at the Media Services office at the time of check out.

Access Permissions

To access certain types of equipment, you must either be enrolled in a course that is granted access to that equipment or request and be approved for access. The simple reality is that we manage equipment for other departments that were purchased using grant monies that restrict who can and can not use the equipment.

If you feel you should be granted access due to course requirements (i.e. Independent Study, Projects for other classes, etc.), feel free to have your instructor contact Matt Dobosenski to discuss your situation.
