鶹Ƶ Technology Services (GTS) would like to welcome you to 鶹Ƶ! It is our hope that this web page will supply you with the information necessary to answer most of your technology-related questions.
What is GTS?
鶹Ƶ Technology Services (GTS) is the one-stop shop for any technology need you may have while you are at 鶹Ƶ. GTS consists of , Telecommunications, Administrative Information Systems (AIS), the Technology Helpline and User Services, Core Services, and Web Services. With the exception of AIS, we are located in Olin Hall. The department is under the direction of Bruce Aarsvold. All technology related questions should be called in to the Technology Helpline (507-933-6111) or e-mailed to helpline@gustavus.edu.
What is my 鶹Ƶ username?
鶹Ƶ uses a standard naming convention for all usernames. First initial and the first seven letters of your last name. If it duplicates an existing username, you will have numbers at the end.
Checking my e-mail
Every 鶹Ƶ account has the ability to use the 鶹Ƶ e-mail system. Your e-mail address is yourusername@gustavus.edu. You can check your e-mail , your phone, your computer's email client, etc. For more information, please contact the Technology Helpline.
Passwords
鶹Ƶ has four passwords that you will use daily.
- E-mail/Computer Login – This password will also be used for your Home Directory, Moodle, 鶹Ƶ Google Calendar, and 鶹Ƶ Search.
- WebAdvisor – WebAdvisor initially will give you a random password, but you are able to make it the same as your e-mail password. It will not change when you change your e-mail password.
- Voicemail – Your voicemail password will only be used to retrieve voicemails. The password will need to change every so often. You will be prompted to change it when the time comes.
Who do I call for help?
GTS provides support to the members of the 鶹Ƶ community through the Technology Helpline, located on the first floor of Olin Hall. The Technology Helpline is a group of student workers led by full-time User Services staff members, who are specially trained and dedicated to the serving the hardware, software, and networking needs of the campus community. Home Directory
Every user account includes a network storage space. This space is accessible anywhere on campus and is backed up nightly. Each employee is provided with 2GB of storage space. If you need more space, please contact the Technology Helpline. For more information, please see Home_directory.
Virtual Lab
鶹Ƶ users have the ability to use Windows lab software (e.g. ArcGIS, Adobe products,) off campus using any personal computer they have access to via the Virtual Lab. This also gives you access to your home directory contents or other network data.
Computer Training
鶹Ƶ 鶹Ƶ now has an on-line training resource available to all 鶹Ƶ Staff/Administrators/Faculyy or Students. Please vist the following website for more information: /gts/Lynda.
Discounted Software
Each employee who has a 鶹Ƶ owned computer in their office, is eligible to install Microsoft Office on their personal computer at a deep discount. Please visit the following website for more information: /gts/Hup
Good computing habits
SPAM/Phishing
Please be aware that GTS will never ask you for your password. If you receive a lot of SPAM, please adjust your SPAM settings
Attachments
Don’t automatically open attachments without knowing what the file is, even from people who you know.
Passwords
Make all accounts on your computer password protected. Make them complicated by mixing letters, numbers, and symbols. Please see
