iMovie is a media (video, audio and still images) editing program for Macintosh OS X. It is also included with the iLife suite. With iMovie you may import video from external sources, such as DV recorders, edit video, add sound, such as background music, add transitions and titles, export clips for use on the Internet, , and also prepare a movie to be burned to DVD using iDVD. iMovie works together with iDVD, iTunes, and iPhoto to allow users to have very comprehensive media editing options. For more information on iMovie see the article.

When using a computer in an academic lab, you must be aware of specific things when saving your project. The file will be too large to save on your home directory, but you will be able to save it to the local machine's hard drive. This way, if you work on the same machine later, the file will still be there. If you move to a different machine, you will be unable to access the file.

When a project is created in iMovie, it is automatically saved in a folder on the local hard drive.
