FAQ
Will my 鶹Ƶ e-mail address change?
No, your e-mail address will remain the same.
How do I move my e-mail to GusMail hosted by Google?
We will have a migration webpage that a user will visit to start the process. By the end of the summer, all student accounts will transition to GusMail.
How long until faculty/employees are moved to GusMail?
As of now, there are no plans to move employees to GusMail.
As an employee, will I have the option to move to GusMail? If so, when?
Yes, but we do have have a definite timeline yet. For those employees who wish to migrate to GusMail, this option will be available sometime after the student migration has been completed.
If I am both an employee and a student of 鶹Ƶ, will my e-mail be migrated?
No. Your employee status at 鶹Ƶ will cause your e-mail to remain on the current system by default.
Does Google read my e-mail?
Google states “Google Apps for Education services do not collect or use student data for advertising purposes or create ads profiles.”
Google Apps for Education is FERPA compliant, and they clearly state that "Google Apps for Education users own their data, not Google." Google Apps and their supporting data centers are held to the highest auditing and certification standards available (). Google is also a signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge ().
Are students being forced to use GusMail?
Students will still have the option to forward their e-mail to another provider if they choose.
Do I still have to change my password annually?
Yes, this change will not affect the current password change policy.
Is this move to GusMail hosted by Google a part of the website redesign?
No, the website redesign is a completely separate project.
What will be the most noticeable changes?
GusMail has a significantly different user interface than our current Horde Webmail. We expect the desktop mail clients to function the same, but they will have additional folders such as Google’s All Mail folder.
GusMail supports a maximum message size of 25MB, but files of up to 5TB can be connected via Google Drive. Our current system has a limit of 50MB. GusMail will provide unlimited e-mail storage space, eliminating the current 500MB limit.
Will I able be able to keep my 鶹Ƶ email after graduation?
Yes, nothing will change. You will continue you to use the same e-mail interface as an alumnus.
Will my Webmail contacts transfer?
Your 鶹Ƶ Webmail contacts will be archived and sent to you as an CSV (comma separated values) file that is easily imported into your GusMail contacts. For more information on importing your contacts, please see Google Contacts.
