This article will show you how to set up printing in the residence-halls for computers running Linux-based operating systems. These instructions should apply to any recent Linux distribution that uses system-config-printer. Such distributions include Fedora 9, Ubuntu 8.04, and later distributions running the GNOME desktop. If you find that these instructions work for another distribution, please update this article accordingly. All 鶹Ƶ residence halls have HP Laserjet 4350 printers, so any reasonably modern Linux distribution should have the drivers installed already.

You may receive a warning about the signature on the file. Unless you have reason to believe that someone is attempting to attack your computer, it is safe to ignore this warning.
Automatic Method (Other Distributions)
The debs available at the link above use lpadmin to install and remove printers, so they should work on Debian or any derivative that includes lpadmin in the cups-client package and has the file /usr/share/ppd/openprinting/HP/HP_LaserJet_4350.ppd.gz. The debs are only guaranteed to work on Ubuntu 8.10, though.
Manual Method
Go to "System>Administration>Printing". Click "New". Select "Other". In the box on the right, enter a URI from the table below. Click next. When it asks for the model of printer, select HP and LaserJet 4350. Use the default choice for the driver. Enter whatever you want for printer name (note that this cannot contain spaces), description, and location.

If your distribution does not use system-config-printer, the procedure will differ from the above instructions. It should be close, though.
