This article will show you how to set up printing in the residence-halls for computers running Linux-based operating systems. Please note that these instructions have only been verified against Fedora 9 and Ubuntu 8.04 running the GNOME desktop. If you find that these instructions work for another distribution, please update this article accordingly. All ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ residence hall printers are HP Laserjet 4350 printers, so any reasonably modern Linux distribution should have the drivers installed already.
Installing residence hall printers
Click the following link to download the residence hall printer installer. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on it and select "Extract Here".
This will create a folder called "install-gac-printers". Open that folder and double-click on "install-gac-printers.py".
You will be prompted for what you want to do. Click "Run". If you are interested in how the program works, you can click "Display" instead.
Select the printers you want to install, then click "Install".
This may take some time, as the computer will have to search for the proper drivers.
Depending on your distribution and security settings, you may be prompted for a password.
Once the printers have been successfully installed, they will be checked and grayed-out in the installer main window. You may choose additional printers to install or simply close the installer.
