Filezilla is a free, open source FTP client. It supports FTP, , and FTPS (FTP over SSL/). The client is available under many platforms, binaries for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X are provided. Filezilla can be downloaded and used to access your Home Directory from off campus. One of the biggest advantages to using Filezilla is its ability to move and transfer entire folders to and from the Home Directory. The file manager integrated with Webmail only allows the transfer of one file at a time.


Download Filezilla

To download the latest version of Filezilla, click the following link: , then select the appropriate client to download for your platform. Follow through download, run then install commands.

Map Home Directory

Windows 7

  1. From the start menu, locate Filezilla under its saved location then open it
  2. Click the "Site Manager" icon in the upper left hand corner
  3. In "Site Manager", click "New Site"
  4. Enter the following information for the new site
    1. Host: ftp.gac.edu
    2. Protocol: SFTP
    3. Logon Type: Ask for password
    4. User: yourgustavususername
    5. Password: Leave blank
  5. Click Connect
  6. Enter your password and you should be connected to your home directory.

Note: If you need to access locker, change the Remote Site path to /Net/space.virtual/space/space/

To upload a file/folder to a remote server, you first must be connected to the server. Once connected, in the remote pane You can right click on any file/folder in this pain and click basic to upload the selected file/folder to the location in the remote pane.

Downloading a file/folder

In the remote pane, navigate to the file/folder that you want to download. Also, in the local pane, navigate to the location that you want the file/folder to be downloaded to. Once you have both panes at the locations you want, right click on the item you want to download and select basic. This will download the file to the location in the local pane.
