A home directory (often referred to as a Z-drive, since "Z" is the default network drive letter on Windows) is a networked personal storage space for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators. This space can be used to save papers, syllabi, pictures, e-mail, and other documents. Home directories are also used to store user's personal homepages. This storage is backed up every night to ensure your data is safe. For large files, please use Google Drive.
Currently users are given 1 GB of storage space for files. If more home directory space is needed, .

On-Campus Access
Windows 8/10
- From the Start Screen start typing Computer
- Right Click on Computer or This PC and select Map Network Drive from the list of options on the bottom
- Input the following information:
- Drive: Z
- Folder: \\home.gac.edu\username
- Check "Reconnect at logon"
- Click on "Connect using a different user name"
- Click on Finish
- When prompted, input your 鶹Ƶ username and password
If you have problems connecting, do the following:
Change the Settings
- Press the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt keys) and then the "R" key. A run dialog box will appear.
- Type "secpol.msc" (sans quotes) and press Enter
- Expand Local Policies
- Click on Security Options
- Double-click on "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level"
- Change setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Click OK
You may need to reboot for this setting to take affect.
Windows 7
- From the Start Menu, select Computer
- From the toolbar at the top of the window, select Map Network Drive
- Input the following information:
- Drive: Z
- Folder: \\home.gac.edu\username
- Check "Reconnect at logon"
- Click on "Connect using a different user name"
- Click on Finish
- When prompted, input your 鶹Ƶ username and password
Mac OS X
- From the Finder, select Connect to Server from the Go menu
- Type smb://home.gac.edu/username in the text box along the bottom. Click the Connect button.
- When prompted, enter your username and password
- Choose My Home Directory from the list that appears
Your home directory will now be mounted. For easy access in the future, drag your home directory icon to the right side of your dock.
Off-campus access
You are able to access your files stored in your home directory from anywhere, granted that you have an Internet connection.

Via Webmail
Please note that this option is not available for GusMail users. To access your Home Directory via Webmail perform the following tasks:
- Log on to the 鶹Ƶ Webmail service.
- Click on "File Manager"
You then will be able to browse your Home Directory. You can download these files by clicking the download icon.
