Using the Add-on in Thunderbird, Alumni are able to import and view e-mail messages from the zip copy of their home directories.
For help or assistance downloading the zip file, please see: Alumni Home Directory Access. E-mail files are located in the Maildir directory.
Directions for viewing Maildir formatted messages in Thunderbird
- Download and install the Add-on in your Thunderbird client.
- Restart Thunderbird.
- Create a mailbox for the import.
- Select that mailbox.
- From the Tools menu select Import/Export Tools >Import Messages
- Change the file type to All files
- Select the files from the MailDir directory. You can use all normal selection options (select all, shift click or Ctr A). Normally messages will be in the cur directory in the individual mailboxes. Your inbox will be the cur directory in the root of the Maildir folder.
- Click Open.
The messages you selected should be imported to the mailbox you selected in step 4. Once messages are in Thunderbird, you can move them to any account or location you wish.
