Keyboard shortcuts

Mouse Gestures

Firefox loaded on campus machines all come with the add-in Mouse Gestures Redox installed. This add-in allows the user to easily navigate web-pages using special shortcuts performed by holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse form a "gesture" and then releasing the right mouse button to complete the command. Here is a list of gestures that can be performed, all of the following commands are performed by holding the right mouse button, doing the gesture, and then releasing the right mouse button:

  • Back (Left): Go back a page in the browsing history
    • Swipe the cursor left
  • Forward (Right): Go forward a page in the browsing history
    • Swipe the cursor right
  • Close Tab (Down-Right): Close the active tab
    • Move the mouse down and then right (creating an L shape)
  • New Tab (Up): Create a new tab
    • Swipe the cursor straight up crossing a hyperlink to open that link, or over another part of the website to open a blank tab.
  • New Window (Down): Create a new window
    • Swipe the cursor straight down crossing a hyperlink to open that link, or over another part of the website to open a blank tab.
  • Open Several Links in Tabs: Opens several links at once, all in new tabs.
    • Swipe the cursor rightwards through multiple links in a line, then move the cursor up, and then left to open all cross links in open tabs.

There are other gestures that can be performed, to view them go to Tools-->Add-ons. In the Extensions tab and then hit Options under Mouse Gestures Redox. In the General tab you can Edit Gestures to create your own or view those already on the machine. Other options include changing the button that activates the beginning and end of the gesture, creating mouse trails, and others.
