Windows Vista is an operating system made by Microsoft Corporation. It was first released publicly in January, 2007 and is the successor to Windows XP. has a which contains additional general information about the operating system.

Connecting to the network

Because Windows Vista poses more security risks than other operating systems, such as Mac OS X or Linux, Technology Services requires Windows machines connected to the 鶹Ƶ network to meet the following basic requirements:

  1. Your computer must have the most recent Windows updates.
  2. Your computer must have Symantec_Endpoint_Protection installed and have updated virus definitions.

Troubleshooting

Cannot log into computer after running Windows Updates

  1. Boot into safe mode.
  2. Click Start and type regedit into the search prompt and hit enter.
  3. Examined the keys under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentUser\ProfileList\
  4. Find the key for the user id SID.
  5. The key that has a ".bak" appended to it and there was an identical one to that was set to a temp directory over in the right hand side.
  6. Rename the other key by adding a 1 to the end of it #Remove the ".bak" from key that had the .bak extension, and change the value property under the key to 0.
