[http://gustavus.edu/go/webadvisor WebAdvisor] -- is a [[web-based]] system that allows �鶹��Ƶ students, faculty and staff access to important academic information. WebAdvisor is also where students register for courses and check grades.

WebAdvisor has different features depending who logs in.

==Guests==
If you are not logged into WebAdvisor, only limited options are available.
==Passwords==
:For students' first-time login, the default WebAdvisor password will be gus followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number (ex: gus1234). Your WebAdvisor password must be 6 to 9 characters in length and include both letters and numbers. It is not automatically the same as your email password.
:If you don't know (or forgot) your WebAdvisor password, you can reset it by clicking the [http://gustavus.edu/go/webadvisor/student I forgot my password and need to reset it] link. You will be asked to provide your �鶹��Ƶ username and either your Social Security Number or �鶹��Ƶ ID number. A temporary password will be sent to your �鶹��Ƶ email account (if you don't know your email password - please stop by the [[Technology Helpline]]). The first time you log in with this temporary password, you will be prompted to choose another password.

If your account is disabled for failed log in attempts (Your account has been disabled due to too many incorrect login attempts), please wait 5 minutes and try again. The system will reset itself.

==Parent Access==
Students have the ability to set up and administer access to WebAdvisor for their parents. Parents who have forgotten their WebAdvisor password must have their child reset it.
# Log into WebAdvisor, click "Manage Parent Access to Your Records" link.
# Create a WebAdvisor account for your parents (if they don't already have them), assigning a username (10 - 20 characters in length.
# Temporary password for the new account will be sent to the student's �鶹��Ƶ email, and they need to share it with their parents.
# Select what access to allow for parents.

A cookie is a small piece of information stored locally, on your machine, by a website, to help the site remember you later. Browsers limit the size, total number and other specifications for cookies.

Occasionally, WebAdvisor (WA) users report problems and error messages regarding cookies. Each time a user opens a new browser window or tab in WA, a new cookie is created. For WA to properly remove cookies, users must use the '''CLOSE WINDOW''' button on the page. If you close the WA window by clicking the X in the top of the window or tab the cookie will not be removed. If you open and close (without using the '''CLOSE WINDOW''' button) enough windows you will receive a message that says the maximum number of cookie values has been reached. To resolve this problem, close all open windows and tabs, using the '''CLOSE WINDOW''' button, log out of WA and restart your browser.
